  BRIEF NEWS
[15.02.2004]: Sweden: Robert and Fredrik: Proud and Happy Future Fathers
Robert and Fredrik Skoglund from Hässelby outside Stockholm have been formally approved as adoptive parents as one of the first same sex couples in Sweden after the new legislation was introduced last year. The happy couple now faces a much bigger challenge than the Swedish bureaucracy though: They are now looking for a country where they may find a child to adopt and bring to Sweden (As in other Nordic countries, the overwhelming majority of all adopted children are brought to Sweden from third world countries through adoption agencies. There are extremely few Swedish born children available for adoption). “We hope that the adoption agencies start working to find countries that are willing to give children to homosexual parents”, Robert Skoglund said to Radio Stockholm(© Enkidu/SR) Fredrik och Robban får OK på adoption

[15.02.2004]: Flanders: New decree opens for same sex couples as adoptive parents:The regional parliament of the Flanders (the northern Flemish speaking part of Belgium) has issued a new decree on adoption, which among other reforms also grant same sex couples the possibility to adopt children on the same terms as heterosexual couples. The decree will be effective from January 2005 according to the Flemish newspaper De Morgen. Until now, homosexuals have only been allowed to adopt as individuals in Belgium.   © Enkidu/De Morgen
[15.02.2004] France: Pink Revolution on TV:
The Market Research Institute „Media-G-net“ in France published last week a survey indicating that gay topics are increasingly present in French television. During 2003, 764 programs with homosexuality as topic were broadcasted, 178 more than in 2002. It is expected that these numbers will explode this year, since a new gay targeted TV-channel “Pink TV” is starting up these days. However, the producers may be forced to modify their high expectations. On Friday February 13, “Follement Gay”, a new magazine program targeting gay and lesbian viewers was transmitted in prime time on French national television for the first time. Surveys indicate that only 2,5 million viewers, 13,6% of all people watching television in France at that moment chose to watch the program

www.deutsche-aidshilfe.de

Syphilis is a growing problem everywhere in Europe. After similar reports from France, the Netherlands and the Nordic countries, also Germany now reports an explosion in the number of registered Syphilis cases, probably reflecting a general trend towards more unsafe sex. The number of registered new infections increased with 45% in 2002. Berlin has the highest concentration of registered cases with 15,4 cases per 100.000 inhabitants. Many of the infected men also have HIV. It is expected that the number for 2003 will be even more dramatic. The national German Anti-Aids organisation Deutsche Aidshilfe together with the renown Robert Koch Institute is now running a campaign targeting men who have sex with men encouraging people to take a syphilis test.
The campaign poster to the left can now be seen in subways and on advertisement boards throughout Germany as well as in many gay establishments. The text says: Condoms protect for HIV. They cannot bring a 100% protection against syphilis. © Enkidu/DA/Queer.

[20.02.2004]: Same Sex Marriages in Cambodia?
3se.gif (58609 bytes)

The German News Service for the gay community gaywinner.de wrote on Friday 20th of February that the king of Cambodia, 81 years old Norodom Sihanouk was so touched after having watched the many news stories recently on television that he now wants to allow same sex couples to do the same in his own country.  According to gaywinner.de, the King writes on his official homepage that God intended homosexuality as a part of the wealth of diversity among human beings and animals, Therefore gays and Lesbians as well as transsexuals and transvestites should be accepted and respected in the country. We hope we will be able to bring more information from Cambodia in the next issue of Enkidu.

In any case, the king’s homepage is a beautiful example of a head of state’s communication with his people. Every day several handwritten messages, comments and observations from the king to the world are scanned and placed on his homepage. For the time being he is in medical treatment in China, but even from there, he continues this tradition. © Enkidu/gaywinner.de http://www.norodomsihanouk.info/
