Instructional styles in culturally diverse classrooms

Raquel E. Perez

Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution

Nova Southeastern University

Estados Unidos

Throughout the world classrooms are filled with culturally diverse students who are in the mist of globalization because of this, teachers are faced with a plethora of challenges. The difficulty in instructing present day cultural diverse students is that they are influenced by more than just one culture.

This differs greatly from the generations that existed thirty years ago, which were not greatly influenced by globalization, therefore in order to effectively reach a broad array of students we must rethink, revamp, renegotiate the teaching styles within a classroom setting. Today’s instructional styles must be transformed to include teaching styles that will benefit students from high and/or low- context cultures.

This study will identify the difficulties of instructing in cultural diverse classrooms, the effects of globalization within the classroom, and finally, I will demonstrate how to negotiate teaching strategies within this environment.
